A Moment in Time

My sweet little girl turned two at the end of June. Two. Where does the time go? It sounds so cliche, but it is oh so true the time speeds up when you have kids. I think because you’re so unbelievably busy that you don’t notice how fast time passes. We spent some time watching videos of her from as young as one day old. She loves to watch herself and laugh. She’s gotten to saying, “Rowan funny!”. I like to think she’s hilarious, especially since she’s got my sense of humour ;)

Being a photographer, I feel it is so important to photograph the people in your life who mean the most to you. Having lost my Mum at the end of last year, I can’t express this statement to you enough. I look through old family photographs constantly, and more so when I’m really missing her. So I make a point in photographing my loved ones, even more now. (Actually, it’s because of my Mum that I developed a passion for photography :))

This past weekend, I had a few minutes in the studio with my daughter, and this is just a snippet from our session. Albeit, a very short session (those with toddlers can attest to the challenges in getting a two year old to pose for the camera, haha) I think we got some gems that I know I will cherish for a lifetime. Her personality is really coming out now, and I think I nailed it in just a few shots. I’ll post more from her session in the next couple of days, once I’m done editing them. I have so many shoots to edit, so these will be on the back-burner ;) I did want to share with you my faves!

These make me think of a quote from my favourite photography teacher in Ryerson, Rob Allen: A portrait is given, not taken. I think Rowan gave me some great portraits :)
