I can now check “century barn photo session” off my creative bucket list. This place was so darn cool and offered a variety of little nooks and crannies to create some versatile and creative backdrops. This gorgeous family had never had their portraits done professionally before. I was honoured to be the one to change that. Their son had arranged a century old barn for us to use as the setting, and wow, was it ever a neat place! It was a grey and cold October day, the sky gave us a moody element and it offered up some beautiful light.
Is there that one really cool location that you’ve had in your mind for portraits? Something you maybe pass by on your daily commute that sticks out and calls your name? Maybe that’s just the photographer in me, haha. There are some neat places that I see in my travels and I think about how the light hits differently. Or how it has some neat buildings that would add a texture or storyline to an image. I get excited when clients come to me with a cool space already in mind. But no worries if you don’t! I also have a gorgeous 30-acre field that makes a beautiful, natural setting for a variety of portrait sessions. And we have cool barn board too!
This session was so fun for a few reasons. Not just the cool century barn, but the whole family was totally excited to be there! I know that sometimes it’s hard to get everyone in your group on board with the idea of portraits. It can be challenging to get them all to agree. A good tip I received years ago, is to set the tone! Be the leader and explain how important it is to you. I will do my best to make it as painless as possible and help guide nervous or anxious participants. However, a willing participant, is a more easily relaxed one ;) Interested in documenting your family’s joy? Let’s connect!
