I love a good in-home session to document a family’s love and joy. These sessions are definitely at the top of my list for favourite style of family portraits. Take this beautiful family for example! I was invited into their home during a super hot and sticky summer day, to record their family’s connection. And what a beautiful backdrop for a portrait! Their house is just as gorgeous as her family. Featuring elegant décor, stunning high ceilings and gorgeous soft natural light, we created some beautiful artwork they will hang in their home.
An in-home session is a great alternative to portraits within a studio setting. Especially if young children are involved, as they will no doubt feel more at ease in their own house. Being more relaxed and comfortable lends itself well to achieving a truly candid and documentary vibe versus a standard portrait. Depending on what style you are hoping for, this is one to consider.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a beautiful field with the golden tones of an evening sun, just as much as the next photographer 😉 But there’s an element of an in-home session that tells that unique story. There is a lot to be said for documenting your love and joy in the environment where you built your family. Baking cookies. Curled up on the couch. Running around your backyard.
